CLASS EXPERIENCE: Michigan Icicle ~ A Winter Classic!

Michigan Icicle™

The Michigan Icicle™ is our most popular class experience in the Dearborn studio. This hands-on glass blowing class is the perfect way to spend a wintry Friday evening or a chilly weekend day! Immerse yourself in the captivating world of glassblowing as you create a breathtaking glass keepsake, using our exclusive recycled glass recipe.

Our expert instructor will reveal the secrets behind the renowned Michigan Icicle™ through a live demonstration. As each student works with our instructors, you'll witness every 'blob' of molten glass transform into a stunning icicle. Utilizing specialized tools, gravity, and creative insight, you'll skillfully snip, pull, and stretch the molten glass 'blob' into its distinctive icicle shape. While adding a touch of white 'snow' to the molten glass surface is optional, it is often preferred to enhance the icicle's charm.

To finish the icicle, our talented craftsmen will attach a glass loop at the top of the icicle for hanging, then place it in the annealer, a cooling oven, to cool to room temperature overnight.

This Michigan Icicle ™ is a trademark item, designed exclusively by and for the Glass Academy. This is an exciting class you won’t want to miss!

You will make one Michigan Icicle per ticket purchased. If you would like to make more than one, you are welcome to purchase an additional ticket. Or come back again; our classes are repeatable!

We offer a $12 guest ticket which must be purchased if you'd like to bring a guest to watch your class, or if you don't want to make a product, but would like to watch the class from the "audience". Everyone in attendance MUST purchase either a class ticket or a guest ticket. This allows us to prepare the space accordingly. When purchasing a guest ticket, please put the desired class date and time in the notes.

YOUR CLASS TICKET PURCHASE INCLUDES...

• The materials, tools, and instruction to make ONE Michigan Icicle per class ticket. 
• A live glassblowing demonstration from one of our class instructors. 
• A behind-the-scenes tour of our glass studio and Batch Gallery, where you’ll learn more about our successful working art studio and the glass-making process.
• A coupon for 20% off all items in our gallery. This coupon can only be used on the day of your class or the day when you pick up your class product (if you choose to pick up your finished product in-person).

RULES & WHAT TO EXPECT

• You must be at least 16 years old to participate in our classes. However, those under 16 years old are welcome to purchase a guest ticket and watch the class.
• Closed-toed shoes are required and we suggest that you wear cotton, as it will be hot in the shop.
• Please arrive 15 minutes early to fill out paperwork, meet the other students, and browse the gallery.
• Classes are typically 1 to 1.5 hours long. However, the duration may vary depending on the intensity of the project and class size.
• This is an entry-level class. No prior experience is necessary!
• Before you can take your beautiful glass creation home, it must cool from 1200°F to room temperature. Once completely cooled, your glass keepsake is ready for pickup from our studio OR we offer free shipping directly to your home if you live in the United States.
