Same Image, Different Outcome

Same Image, Different Outcome

Yes!  It’s true!!

The pumpkins in this image are all the same pumpkin!  Check out the differences that can happen during each photo shoot in the way that we photographed them, where and when they were photographed, and why we photographed them three different times.

Let me explain how this happens.  In the first round of images, we did them in the photo room of the Glass Academy back in August of this year. Using spotlights and a special lighting table, we are able to avoid ‘hot spots’ (bright spots of color reflecting on the pumpkins) and can really focus on the details of the pumpkins, like getting the size documented properly with a ruler, clearly defining the shapes, and providing a reference for color on the website. We uploaded these images to create the webpage and get the details in place for the 2024 Signature Release.

Once we had the basics down, we could start on more creative photos and that happens next with our professional photographer. She has an incredible camera and can make better adjustments for lighting and placement. The first version is taken on a white table, appearing much brighter than the originals we took on the iphone back in August.  These images are the ones in the middle image of this detail shot above, and more of those can be found on the actual pumpkin website page. These images don’t include a ruler, and while they are solid documentation of the pumpkins—the same ones from the previous photo shoot—without a ruler for scale, we felt it necessary to keep the originals with the ruler on the website page for customer reference.

The next grouping consists of outdoor beauty shots that we use for print and TV media, along with our social media and in our eNews. These are my favorites to shoot because we can use props, work in natural light, and add accents to these images like the pumpkin vines on the table. Assuming everything lines up with the weather when we do these photo shoots, these images become classics that we can use for future years.

These images tend to be a bit more playful and do not require the serious documentation that the previous two styles offer. As seen here, when taken in bright sunlight, the results are very different. The pumpkin used in these images is exactly the same pumpkin for all 3 versions you see. Clearly that lighting can drastically change the outcome!!  The colors are brighter, stronger, and the sparkles are even more dominant in these images. This group of images was perfect for our email signature image, our posters in the studio, and for TV promos as it presents more of a ‘lifestyle’ look versus documentation.

Take a look at the stem, shape, and color. This is 100% the same pumpkin used in each image. Isn’t it fun how varied and unique each pumpkin can look in different situations?
