About The Academy

The vision of the Glass Academy is to provide a state-of-the-art facility and instruction for individuals to explore their creativity through artistic endeavors so they feel rewarded through a sense of fulfillment and accomplishment.

The Glass Academy provides a 14,000 square foot training facility on the west side of Dearborn. State-of-the-art equipment, tools, private studio space, student lounge and dining area, and secure parking are all part the facility. Studio operations are ecologically sound, and a “green roof” will be created on the facility over the next three years.

Classes are available Monday through Friday from 10am to 7pm, with the exception of New Years, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Class sizes are limited to between 8 –12 students, dependant on the chosen course of study. Participating students must be at least 18 years of age.

No prerequisites are required for safety and Introduction Level 1 courses. Currently, the Academy will not accept credits or transcripts from any other institution.

A Certification of Completion will be provided upon successful graduation in each course based upon teacher requirements, 75% attendance, and demonstration of skills learned. To advance to the next level, this certification must be presented, and/or documented on student transcript upon registration. Students are expected to attend a minimum of 18 hours per session.

Specialized tools and equipment will be supplied by the Glass Academy LLC to ensure optimal results in studio work. All tools and equipment remain on site and in possession of the Glass Academy LLC. A safety instruction book, instructional pamphlets, historical notes and drawings, and a sketchbook will be provided on the first class for the students to keep and to use as reference material. Additional supplies can be purchased at the school store.

Tuition and all course fees must be paid in full by the beginning of the second class. Failure to do so will result in forfeit of the course. Financing is available through the Academy for special qualified students. Material and course fees will be outlined and collected on the first session of class.

Refund Policy is as follows: Refunds will be considered only before the 2nd class in any given semester. All tuition and fees paid by the applicant shall be refunded if the applicant is rejected by the school before enrollment. An application fee of not more than $25.00 may be retained by the school if the application is denied. All tuition and fees paid by the applicant shall be refunded if requested within three business days after signing a contract with the school. All refunds shall be returned within 30 days.

No make-up work or leave of Absence will be permitted. All work must be completed on site. Re-admission, if necessary, will be reviewed by an advisory board.

The Advisory board is headed by Chris Nordin, and supervised by a Board of Directors. Artistic Direction and Admissions is headed by Michelle Plucinsky.

Job assistance and/or additional income venues will be discussed and explored on the last class session in each course. This will include, although is not limited to, an introduction of how to do art fairs, applying for a juried show, and how to sell to and in galleries.

The Glass Academy LLC reserves the rights to dismiss students based upon disorderly conduct, misuse of equipment, safety issues, and 3 unexcused absences. Failure to adhere to the regulations of the Glass Academy LLC could result in reprimand and/or an incident report. After two such incident reports, the student will be dismissed with no refund.
